Benaulim fisherman Pele Fernandes received yet another pat on his back on his mission to rescue sea turtle. The Forest department has issued him a letter of appreciation to Pele for his remarkable efforts in rescuing the Olive Ridley marine turtles on April 9 off Benaulim.
In fact, Dy. Conservator of Forests, Wildlife & Eco-Tourism, Margao, Ankit Kumar, IFS has expressed the Forest department’s gratitude and appreciation for your admirable efforts in rescuing two endangered Olive Ridley Marine Turtles entangled in fishing net in deep sea water near Benaulim Beach on 09th April, 2025.
“Being the local fisherman, your swift action and dedication to marine life conservation reflect a deep commitment towards protecting our fragile ecosystem. The Olive Ridley turtles are a vulnerable species and your courageous intervention not only saved two precious lives but also contributed significantly towards ongoing conservation efforts”, Kumar said in his letter of appreciation, commending Pele for his outstanding contribution to marine conservation.
He added: “Your compassion and sense of responsibility is inspiring. We commend your action and encourage other fishermen to follow your example in preserving and protecting our marine wildlife
The Forest official said the Forest department look forward to more collective strides toward a healthier planet.
