Free notebooks, pencils and other stationary items were distributed to around 500 students and around 250 umbrellas were distributed to the senior citizens on the occasion of the 106th Birth Anniversary of former Maharashtra CM Vasantrao Naik at a function organised at Zuarinagar on Sunday. The function was organised by Rashtriya Banjara Parishad Goa along with Goar Yuva Sena in association with the Sancoale Panchayat. Girish Pillai, sarpanch of VP Sancoale was the guest of honour for the function.
Pillai sponsored books and umbrellas for the function. Other sponsors for the functions included panch member Govind Lamani, Anand Angdi, President of All Goa Banjara Lamani, Eswar Chavan of Go Goa tours and Kumar Lamani, Secretary of Goar Yuva Sena.
The function began with the traditional lighting of lamp and notebooks and stationary were distributed to around 500 students and 300 umbrellas were distributed to senior citizens during the function at the hands of Sarpanch Girish Pillai, Dy Sarpanch Kavita Kamal and panch members Satish Padwalkar, Govind Lamani and other prominent members of the Goa Banjara Samaj and Goar Yuva Sena.
Speaking to media, Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai said that he was extremely happy to be a part of the function while advising politicians and youth to be inspired by the life of late Vasantrao Naik who grew in a poor village but went on to be the longest serving CM of Maharashtra. Pillai also urged the students to do well in life while appealing the youth to take up farming as a source of livelihoods.”
Vasantrao Naik was the Chief minister of Maharashtra from 1963 to 1975 and till date he remains the longest serving Chief minister of Maharashtra.
