Former Sancoale Deputy Sarpanch Darrick Vales on Thursday inaugurated a newly constructed culvert at Sancoale, built entirely at his own cost, and dedicated it to the local residents as a birthday gift to society.
The culvert, according to Vales, addresses a long-pending demand of the people who had been facing considerable hardship while commuting through the area, particularly during the monsoon.
Residents were earlier forced to cross a deep stream of flowing water due to the absence of a proper passage, posing inconvenience as well as safety concerns.
Speaking after the inauguration, Vales said that the issue had remained pending for a long time despite repeated demands from the locals. He said he had assured the people that if the authorities and elected representatives failed to resolve the problem, he would personally take up the work and construct the culvert at his own expense.
Vales said the project was undertaken with the sole intention of providing a safe and convenient passage to the people.
The former Deputy Sarpanch said that inaugurating the culvert on his birthday made the occasion even more meaningful, as he could offer something useful to the community.
