PORVORIM
Four flats at the Casa de Fortune building in Carrem-Socorro were burgled in broad daylight on Wednesday.
According to Porvorim police, three complainants, Avni Baedeker, Sulesh Naik and Sulesh Mapari, said they had left for office around 9.30 am on Wednesday and their flats were unoccupied at the time.
When they returned home at around 6 pm, they found the lock of the main door of their flats broken. On entering their flats, they found their flats burgled, rooms ransacked, and cash, gold ornaments and valuable articles stolen from their homes.
In her complaint, Maria Martins said she was not residing in the flat but frequently visited her flat and had kept her gold ornaments in the premises.
On receiving the complaint, a police team went to investigate the burglaries and pressed a police dog squad and fingerprint experts into service. Police also enquired with inmates of other flats in the building, but could not get any clue into the four burglaries.
Police said they are yet to ascertain the stolen property, but suspected that the valuables stolen could be worth over Rs 9 lakh.
“It is possible that one man must have committed these burglaries. In the past too, a man who had hired a car had committed similar burglaries. Investigations are in progress and we are hopeful of nabbing the culprit soon,” said a police source.
