Two other noted writers also included in the list of awards are senior actor Ramakant Payaje (B D Satoskar Marathi language award) and Vinayak Modak (Durgaram Upadhye Sanskrit language award).
The awards include a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and a memento.
All three recipients have been awarded in recognition of their long-time services to their respective languages.
Expressing his happiness on being selected to receive the award from the Directorate of Official Languages, Fr Couto said it was a recognition of his efforts to promote Konkani in the Devnagari script.
“I am very pleased to be nominated for this prestigious award. It is the recognition of my efforts in Konkani in the Devnagari script,” said Fr Couto, who presently resides at the St Inez Church in Panaji.
Fr Couto, who has written extensively in Konkani Devnagari script for various publications, was earlier the recipient of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal award for services rendered to the cause of Konkani.
“I have also worked hard to promote Devnagari script among the Catholic community,” said Fr Couto.
