Francis says too many old-age homes in State not good sign

Maintaining that too many old-age homes is not a healthy sign in society, Minister for Provedoria Francis D’Souza on Saturday made an impassioned plea for good care of the elderly, while expressing the government’s commitment to provide better amenities at the taluka level elderly homes.   

Speaking at the Sneha Bhav Sanskar program, an awareness program at the Cuncolim Municipal Council hall, on Saturday evening, the minster reminded the younger generations that one cannot escape old age and hence made a fervent plea to take care of senior citizens.   

“Opening too many old-age homes is not a healthy trend though. We should remember that everyone will become old one day,” he said.

He underlining the need for citizens to pay periodic visits to the old-age homes.   

Saying that the Goa government has covered all the senior citizens in the state under DSS scheme, D’Souza said it is sad that many children look after their parents with an eye on the government dole.   

South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar and Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias were present.
