Justifying the Congress party’s promise of allotting free petrol quota to students, AICC General Secretary Girish Chodankar said it would help students reach their study centres on time but added that the petrol would be allotted to students only after consulting parents.
He was addressing a gathering after releasing the Vision Document (manifesto) of Mormugao’s Congress candidate Sankalp Amonkar on Tuesday. Councillors Sandesh Mesta, Nilesh Navelkar, Murari Bandekar and WISL workers union vice president Alex Pacheco were present.
Defending his party’s promise to allot free 5 litres of petrol to students, Chodankar even responded to queries on ways to make the funds available in this scheme.
“The Congress will plug all corruption to make up for this deficit,” he said, but failed to provide details on this plan.
Asked why Congress had not proposed to improve the transport system instead, Chodankar declined to comment.
To another query on the need to field senior candidates from the Congress, Chodankar said, “The Congress party cannot do away with seniors as they are experienced. However, the Congress has provided ample opportunity to the younger generation to contest the 2017 election and 24 of the 37 seats announced have been allotted to the youth,” he said.
