Under the ‘save water to get free water’ campaign, the Goa government will provide 16,000 litres of tap water free for every household in the State from September 1, said Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant on Tuesday, while emphasizing that Goa is the only State to provide free water in the country.
Sawant also said, that small restaurateurs will also stand to benefit in a big way as they will be shifted from industrial billing to commercial billing system thereby reducing their water bills.
“At least 60 percent of the people will get zero billing from September 1 due to this free water proposal. Free water means zero water charges, zero meter rent and zero billing. I am confident all Goans will take part in the save water campaign,” Sawant said.
He further said that people paying sewerage bills and who come under the slab will also get zero billing.
According to the chief minister, people who face water shortage will also benefit when people take part in save water campaign and urged Goans to be part of the campaign.
He assured the people of Goa that the PWD will work round the clock to provide proper water supply to all people on time.
“People staying in flats will also benefit from this free water scheme. Even if there is one meter it will be divided by the number of flats and that’s how people will benefit in large complexes,” Sawant said.
He said small restaurateurs will be shifted from industrial billing to commercial billing and therefore their bills will also reduce and they will also benefit in a big way.
The CM further informed that the government has decided to extend the one time settlement (OTS) scheme by another two months.
“Those who have not paid bills for the last several years should come forward and pay the bills and take benefit of the scheme,” he said.
While announcing the free water scheme for domestic consumers in his Independence Day speech, the CM had said the scheme would encourage people to consume less and ensure the consumption remains under 16,000 litres cap.
