Frequent power outages have left the tourism industry in South Goa high and dry.
Most of the hotels on Friday were left with no option but to run on generators for want of power supply.
In fact, the hotels went without power supply throughout Friday after the power went off early in the morning and was not restored till 8 pm, more than twelve hours.
Hoteliers said the government must do something urgently so that there is a proper power supply to the hotel industry.
The last few months have been very difficult to operate with frequent power cuts, said Satish Kumar GM of St Regis, former Leela Cavelosim.
There are proposals with the government for laying underground cabling but nothing has been done, it must be taken up as a topmost priority, said Manager Carmo Rodrigues of Novatel.
"We are suffering heavy losses due to frequent power cuts to run on generator as it costs us a lot on diesel. In the last few months, there's been no proper power supply to our hotel," said the operation manager of Byke Hotel Cavelosim.
Cavelossim sarpanch Dixon Vaz said this needs to be taken seriously by the government otherwise it will be difficult for the tourism industry to survive. "We need a proper power supply to survive. I will write to the government to take up the underground cabling on a priority basis," Dixon said.
