A refrigerator is suspected to have triggered a fire that damaged part of a house near St Michael Church at Anjuna around 4 am on Wednesday.
The fire broke out at the residence of William Almeida, where a senior citizen couple was staying. The blaze is suspected to have originated in the kitchen following a short circuit involving the refrigerator.
The Mapusa Fire and Emergency Services team rushed to the house and brought the fire under control before it spread further.
No injuries were reported, but household belongings and property were damaged. Losses are estimated at more than Rs 3 lakh.
