Developing friendship through Facebook and WhatsApp proved costly when a man from Poinguinim was duped of Rs 1.85 lakh.
According to Canacona police, the complainant, Nitesh Sudhir, became friends with one Aryan Naik first through Facebook and later through WatsApp chats and contacts.
Thereafter, Naik began to seek financial assistance on the pretext that his father had met with a serious accident and promised to return the money.
Sudhir transferred Rs 1,85,570 on different occasions between January 1, 2026 and September 6, 2026 through UPI transaction to the accused, whose residence is not known, but he did not return the money.
Acting on a police complaint, Canacona police booked Naik u/s 318 (4) r/w 61 (2) (a) of BNS and Canacona PSI Vishal Velip is conducting further investigation.
