CORTALIM
Coming out in defence of Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, a growing number of people from Cortalim constituency have demanded an explanation from the BJP government for divesting Saldanha of her forest and environment portfolio.
Clearly unhappy that Saldanha was stripped off the forest and environment portfolio, anti-Mopa activist Fr Eremito Rebelo said that in his opinion there could be two reasons for this move.
“Either Saldanha is incapable or she is a hurdle in the way of the BJP to promote their agenda and to appease the industrialists,” said Fr Rebelo.
“It is an open secret that Saldanha was opposed to marinas and the mini-India project at Quelossim, to name a few. I am told by reliable sources that she even refused to sign a file pertaining to the golf course at Tiracol.”
“Saldanha was doing this keeping in mind that the project should not come up in the highly eco-senstive areas, which was also a stand taken by her late husband Matanhy Saldanha,” Fr Rebelo added.“The BJP government should not forget that if they got a majority in the last assembly elections, it was because the charisma of late Saldanha whose legacy BJP had promise to uphold and take it forward.”
