Frontline warriors hold Tsunami mock drill

PANAJI

After a minor hiccup on Wednesday, the frontline warriors held the Tsunami Mock Drill in the Goa coast, which was executed as a part of the State Disaster Contingency Plan. Sources stated that though there was a small communication gap, it was immediately rectified and the stakeholders successfully carried out the exercise.

The Commandant, District Ops & Plans Officer for District Commander had called out for a Tsunami Mock Drill (IOWAVE-23) coordinated by UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) along the West Coast of India.

Alert warnings to all the frontline agencies - police, ports, fire, district administration, etc, which included ETA of the predicted Tsunami in the area were sent out.

The drill was simulated with an earthquake of magnitude 9.0 in Makran Trench off the coast of Iran (preparable participation for West Coast of India and Lakshadweep) wherein the scenario was run in real time for a period of 12 hours.
