By mid-January 2024, the Goa Police will receive a new batch of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) as the initial step in this direct recruitment process -- the pre-screening test -- is scheduled to begin on October 22.
As many as 2,500 aspirants applied for the 28 positions, marking a significant interest in this opportunity that comes after 25 long years. Among these applicants, a substantial number of government employees, including those from the Goa Police itself, are trying their luck.
In the meticulous five-step recruitment process outlined by the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC), candidates will undergo a comprehensive evaluation to determine their suitability for the role.
GPSC Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said the initial phase entails a pre-screening test, and for those who fall short by three marks or so, a repeat pre-screening will be conducted for such candidates.
“Following this, the main screening exam is tentatively scheduled for November. Successful candidates will then have to undergo a Physical Fitness Test to assess their physical capabilities. Subsequently, they will be subjected to a written examination, consisting of four papers and totalling 250 marks. The final stage is the interview round,” he said speaking to The Goan.
The passing percentage for the general category is 65 percent, 60 percent for OBC and Children of Freedom Fighters and 55 percent for those belonging to the SC/ST category.
Noronha further explained that the interview marks will be combined with the marks obtained in the written test. This combined score will enable the Commission to draw a merit list of candidates which will then be placed in ranks according to the respective reservations. This list will then be forwarded to the government,” he added. The Commission expects the recruitment process to conclude by mid-January 2024.
The GPSC on August 25 advertised the process of direct recruitment of the 28 posts for DySPs of which 14 are in the unreserved category, eight for OBC, four for ST, and two for EWS. The deadline for filling up the applications was September 8.
The last batch of directly recruited DySPs was 25 years ago, in 1998 through the GPSC.
