Dabolim Congress leader Captain Viriato Fernandes on Wednesday claimed that fuel contamination continued at Matvem, despite Zuari Indian Oil Adani Ventures Limited (ZIAVL) claiming that a leak in the pipeline had been identified and repairs were conducted.
Fernandes was speaking to reporters after visiting the well in Matvem along with Chicalim panch members Fransisco Nunes, Roman Vaz, ex-Chicalim Sarpanch Seby Pereira, Pratap Mardolkar and others.
“We have come here at the site to cross-check the level of contamination which still continues here. If the ZIAVL has totally stopped operations, how is it that the wells are still being contaminated here? ZIAVL continues to collect 4 tankers of water from this well on a daily basis. The ZIAVL stated that the leak had been identified and repairs have been conducted. If this is so, how is the well still being contaminated,” asked Capt Fernandes.
“This is a big disaster and the whole system has failed because the South Goa collector heading the disaster management has not taken any action till date. All water bodies have been affected but the WRD has not done anything, except for taking the sample.”
“We want to know who stopping the police from acting. We will be forced to approach the court for some action to save the village,” he said.
