CURCHOREM
The upgradation work of the Curchorem-Sanvordem railway station, which was included among the list of 200 railway stations across the country for upgradation, has begun.
The old concrete structure at the entrance of the railway station was partially demolished and the work has begun at a brisk pace.
It may be recalled that Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had included Sanvordem Railway station among 200 railway stations from India which are to be improved and upgraded in terms of better facilities for passengers' convenience. The existing infrastructure at this station is very old and outdated.
Union Minister Prabhu, in a letter to South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, had confirmed that he already announced in his budget speech 2015-16 that 200 railway stations in the country would be developed and upgraded in terms of facilities and infrastructure. In that list of 200 stations, Sanvordem railway station was included under the Adarsh Station Scheme of the Central government.
In June, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral had attended a joint official meeting at Hubli regarding the upgradation of Sanvordem-Curchorem railway station.
When The Goan visited the Curchorem-Sanvordem railway station, it was found that a portion of the dilapidated structure at the entrance of the railway station was demolished and cleaning work of the surrounding area was in progress. Levelling work of the ground is underway.
