Full-fledged kabrastan at Sonsodo within time-frame set by HC: CM

MARGAO
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said the government will do everything possible to realise the dream of the Muslim community for a spacious kabrastan at Sonsodo.

The Margao’s Muslim community has expressed its gratitude to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for his firm stand on the construction of the kabrastan at Sonsodo.

Even as a delegation of the community comprising members of the Jamia Masjid, Margao and prominent citizens, including Margao Municipal councillor Mahesh Amonkar and others felicitated the Chief Minister of the government’s firm stand on the kabrastan, the Chief Minister has assured the community that a full-fledged kabrastan will take shape on the acquired land at Sonsodo within the time-frame set by the High Court.

BJP leader Urfan Mulla said the city’s Muslim community has honoured the Chief Minister for the government’s bold stand before the High Court during the hearing of the Public Interest Litigation. “When the Margao Municipality dilly-dallied on the construction of the kabrastan at Sonsodo, the Chief Minister ensured through the government agencies that a stand in favour of the Sonsodo land was made categorically clear in the High Court,” Mulla added.

A glance at the High Court order on the kabrastan issue revealed that the Court had observed that the Advocate General was clear in his submission that the acquired land could be used to construct and develop a kabrastan. The Advocate General had pointed out in the court that the structures were mainly to come up in the areas indicated in the plans and for which necessary permissions were in place.

The Advocate General stated that a period of about six months would suffice to complete the construction of the prayer house, other buildings and the development of the kabrastan.
