Gad appointed Goa University Vice-Chancellor

Prof Rajendra S Gad, Senior Professor ofElectronics at Goa University, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor ofGoa University, succeeding Prof Harilal Menon, whose five-year tenure is set toconclude this month.

Gad became the second full-time academic fromwithin the university to hold the post after Menon.

Gad, who is associated with the university’sSchool of Physical and Applied Sciences, has handled several research projectsas investigator or co-investigator, with projects funded by agencies includingthe Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Department ofScience and Technology (DST), UGC, ICMR and ICAR.

His research portfolio includes projects relatedto electronics and IT, bidirectional machine translation involving Konkani andother Indian languages, non-invasive glucose monitoring, biometric systems,automated blood pressure monitoring and robotics. He has also been involved inthe Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme and other research and fellowship programmes.

Menon was appointed Vice-Chancellor inSeptember 2021 and was notably the first full-time academic from within GoaUniversity to occupy the post. Before becoming Vice-Chancellor, Menon served asDean of the School of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at the university.

As per the eligibility criteria, applicantsfor the post were required to be eminent academicians with at least 10 years ofteaching experience at the university level or a minimum of 10 years ofexperience in a recognised research institution or academic body.
