Gadkari cleared major hurdle on 4-lane port connectivity: Minister

VASCO
Urban Development Minister Milind Naik on Tuesday said Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has cleared a major hurdle which had delayed the four-lane port connectivity project and the work would now be expedited.

Naik was speaking to reporters at Dabolim Airport on his arriving from New Delhi along with PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar and Speaker Rajesh Patnekar on Tuesday afternoon. “I had gone along with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to meet Gadkari. The four-lane port connectivity project taken up by Gammon India has to be inaugurated by December 19,” said Naik.

“However, the only hurdle was that some payment had to be made by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to Gammon India and this had caused a delay. During a joint meeting regarding all projects in Goa, the union minister directed the new chairman of NHAI to clear the payments. Once this is done, work on the project will be expedited,” Naik added.

PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar, was also present during the meeting, said efforts are underway to inaugurate this project by December 19.

“We have had a successful meeting and the project which was stuck due to final constraints will now be taken up as the issue has been resolved. Directions have now come from the Centre to expedite projects in Goa,” said Pauskar.

Speaker Rajesh Patnekar said a delegation of ministers had also met Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda. “We had three meetings and all of them were successful,” he said.
