Union Minister for Surface Transports and Highways Nitin Gadkari will be in Belagavi on Monday, February 28 to lay the foundation stone for five national highway projects in the Belagavi-Goa region.
The projects include the widening of 5.5 meters wide Sankhali-Jamboti Road via Chorla to 7 meters, enabling smooth and faster traffic movement along the route.
Gadkari will lay the foundation stone for 238 kms of highway projects in Belagavi-Goa region worth Rs 3,972 crore, including the 40.07 km Belagavi-Sankeshwar 6-laning bypass at a cost of Rs 1,479.3 crore and the 69.17 km six-laning of Sankeshwar to Maharashtra border at a cost of Rs 1,388.7 crore.
Besides, the union minister will launch the 69.17-km double-laning highway work from Jamboti to Sankhali in Goa at a cost of Rs 246.78 crore. He will also lay the foundation stone for the 79.70 km paved shoulder work from Murgundi to Vijaypura at a cost of Rs 246.78 crore and the 11.62 km widening work from Siddapur to Vijayapura at a cost of Rs 90.13 crore.
Addressing a news conference, Belagavi MP Mangala Angadi said during the programme, she will propose the immediate implementation of the long pending Belagavi ring road project.
“The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project is ready,” she said.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi, PWD Minister C C Patil and senior NHAI officers will be present at the event, Angadi added.
