The Goa Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) has voiced concern over the poor condition of some buses of the Kadamba Trasport Corporation (KTC) and has demanded urgent repairs of these buses.
The GOACAN has written to the Assistant Director of Transport and the KTC to immediately look into the matter.
In his complaint, GOACAN Convenor Rolland Martins has highlighted the bad condition of a KTC bus (GA-03-X-0260) plying along the Vasco-Margao-Canacona-Karwar route.
“It came to light during my inspection that the back of the bus did not have a glass on one side, and therefore, a tin sheet had been put as a replacement. The tin sheet got loose and kept flapping with the wind and made an irritating sound. To control the flapping, cardboard sheets had been used as packing but to no avail,” said Martins.
“Furthermore, the luggage rack had broken sometime back and as a result, a metal rod was protruding. There was cloth tied to it to avoid passengers from getting injured while holding on to that metal rod. The condition of handrests of two seats were shown as an example of how passengers can hurt themselves.”
GOACAN has sought KTC’s intervention to get its Vasco Depot to undertake repairs of bus (GA-03 X-0260) in the interest of comfort and safety of consumers on the bus.
The NGO has addressed a letter to the Assistant Director of Transport Vasco Rajesh B Naik in this regard.
“We are unable to understand why basic repairs have not been done on this bus which is being used on an inter-state route,” said Martins.
“Moreover, an annual inspection of this bus is required to be done, which seems to have not been undertaken,” he added.
