CANACONA
A delegation led by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Tuesday met Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and requested him to expedite the procedure to construct the 4-lane NH66 highway between Char-Rasta in Canacona and Bendurdem in Quepem.
According to information from Tawadkar’s office, Tawadkar along with Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Ramakant Naik Gaonkar and others in the delegation visited Gadkari at his official residence in New Delhi.
The delegation made a special plea to hasten the land acquisition process for the expansion of NH66 highway between Char-Rasta and Bendurdem with 4 lanes. The land acquisition for this 14-km road-stretch, including the removal of a bottleneck at the accident-prone Karmalghat section, reportedly needs funds exceeding Rs 76 crore.
Gadkari is reportedly learnt to have instructed his officials to expedite the process of land acquisition and assured the delegation that the needful would be done.
Interestingly, the delegation also submitted a proposal to the union transport minister for the installation of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the traffic island at the present entrance (near the Power Station) of NH66 at the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road (Canacona-Karwar bypass road) at Char-Rasta. Gadkari is learnt to have accepted the proposal and assured his full support to this project.
