After making its presence felt in the constituency a couple of months ago, the Goa Forward party has decided to set up a full-fledged office in Cuncolim in mid-October, with party vice-president Durgadas Kamat saying the Congress will not be able to stop the growth of the regional party in Cuncolim when people are looking for the development of the constituency.

Addressing the media, Durgadas said the Goa Forward party is on an expansion drive across the State, adding that the party decided to set up its base in Cuncolim after it found a prospective candidate in Yuri Alemao.

Referring to the criticism mounted by the Congress party over the meeting held by the party with government officials to review development works in Cuncolim, Durgadas said that party chief and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai had only sent a message to the officials that the government will receive all out support to take up development works in Cuncolim.

“The meeting did not speak anything against the Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias. If people of Cuncolim look at Goa Forward to usher in the development of the constituency, no one can stop the party from realising the dreams of the people,” he said.

He pointed out that the party will open its Cuncolim office on October 14 at 5 near the Church, which will be open for all the people of Cuncolim irrespective of their political affiliations.

Assis Noronha, who also addressed the briefing, demanded to know from Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias whether the Cuncolim Council belongs to the Congress or the BJP. “Let the Cuncolim MLA and the GPCC chief Girish Chodankar tell the people of Cuncolim whether the Cuncolim council is affiliated to the Congress or the BJP,” he said.

Assis further pointed out that people of Chandor and Cuncolim had approached Yuri and Joaquim Alemao after MLA Clafacio failed to get the Chandor S8 highway de-notified and to get the Cuncolim bypass shifted to the railway tracks.

“When Yuri and Joaquim led separate delegations to the TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, the later offered solutions to the two issues,” Assis said.
