Gambling is back on Margao station road

MARGAO

“Lal-Khila-Pila” gambling reigned supreme near the Margao station on Sunday right under the nose of the men-in-uniform despite objections by the residents of Malbhat.

A fortnight after the residents scuttled all plans by a group of miscreants to start the gambling activity, which many say is responsible for destroying lives of individuals and their families, on Sunday it raised its ugly head on the station road which is frequented by migrants.

Questions have been raised by the residents whether the gambling activity has police and political patronage. Sources said police personnel speaking on the phone were seen around the place where lal-khila-pilla gambling was being organized.

It was only after the organizers saw the scribes passing along the road, they dispersed from the spot, raising questions over the presence of the police personnel close to the gambling activity.

While Margao police station in-charge PI Kapil Nayak has vowed to stop prostitution in the city after a raid on Goa Lord’s restaurant, questions are being raised whether the police have any plan up its sleeves to reign in on gambling activities mushrooming in the commercial capital.

If ‘godgoddo’ gambling reigns supreme near one of the footbridges, a new gambling activity “chitti’, sources said, was recently introduced in the city, meters away from the starting point of the Margao flyover.

Residents of station road, Malbhat, further told The Goan that the nuisance created by the infamous Chor Bazaar has gone unchecked Sunday after Sunday for reasons best known to the Margao police, throwing up questions whether the men-in-uniform are serious about the issue.
