Admitting to the nuisance created by overhead cable wires, the Pomburpa-Olaulim sarpanch on Sunday informed the gram sabha that letters will be issued to cable operators inviting them for a discussion to find a way out to resolve the problem.
Gram sabha member Bernard Pereira said that cable operators were fastening overhead cables to electricity poles, trees and even taking these through the private properties with impunity.
“The cable operators should either be asked to push these cables underground or made to pay tax to the panchayat,” Pereira said.
He said some people in a goodwill gesture allowed cables through their property but the operators have started taking advantage of public generosity.
“Besides tying the cables to trees and electricity poles one can find cables criss-crossing through private properties which has become a nuisance. They should take permission from the people,” Pereira said.
He also suggested that the panchayat should explore ways to tax the cable operators in bid to fetch revenue for the panchayat.
Sarpanch Prabhakar Halarnkar agreed to issue a letter to the cable operators inviting them to the panchayat and hold discussion in the matter.
Gram sabha members also raised the issue of sign boards, dirty water flowing through the public water pipeline and bad condition of roads.
“The present signboards benefit only one set of travellers “ people moving from Mapusa side but those who travel from Panaji are left clueless. The signboards should have been designed so that travellers from both sides benefit,” Pereira said.
The sarpanch informed that initially it was designed to benefit people traveling from both sides but due to scarcity of funds the panchayat had to settle with only one side signboards.
“We will put up a new proposal before the village development committee to fix nameplates on the other side too so that people coming from Panaji also benefit,” Halarnkar assured.
