Toyota car seized; arrested accused now 23
MARGAO
In a major arrest in the gang war that erupted at Mungul on the Margao-Colva road earlier this month, the Goa Police have nabbed an accused from Rajasthan in connection with the case.
In another development, the police have nabbed an accused from Borim in the same case. A Toyota car, which was used to commit the attack, has been attached by the police.
A police team constituted by the police higher-ups under the supervision of SP, South Tikam Singh Verma and SDPO, Margao, Sidhant Shirodkar had gone to Rajasthan in search of the accused by name Omsa.
Police sources informed that the accused is a close associate of another accused from Ponda, who is still at large. The police team has returned back with the accused on Thursday morning.
A senior police officer informed that the police would interrogate Omsa to find out the exact role played by him in the Mungul case. Police sources informed that the police top brass is monitoring the investigations to find out the gangs Omsa was associated outside Goa in Rajasthan and elsewhere.
The senior police officer pointed out that Omsa’s arrest will shed light on his involvement in the Mungul case, how he was associated with the remaining accused persons, who are primarily hailing from different parts of Goa. “Given that gun shots were fired on the car in the deadly attack at Mungul, the police would find out the shooters as well as the source of guns and the suppliers to the local gangs,” the police officer stated.
Meanwhile, with the police arresting the two accused, the total number of accused arrested in the Mungul gang war case has gone up to 23. While the arrest of the accused from Rajasthan is billed as a prized catch for the Goa Police, sources informed that key accused in the case, hailing from Quepem, Ponda and other places are still at large.
The gang war that erupted on the Margao-Colva road at Mungul had sent shock waves amongst law abiding citizens pointing to the deteriorating law and order situation in the case. In fact, the assailants in the case were armed with guns, swords, koita, besides iron rods and soda bottles when they blocked and attacked the car at Mungul near Sagun Restaurant in the wee hours of August 12.
