The Valshem bridge at Villian in Bhati-Sanguem got submerged by floodwaters on Wednesday, causing severe hardships to people travelling to and from Sanguem.

The flooding was a direct result of three consecutive days of heavy rainfall in the region.

As the sole connection between Netravali and other nearby villages to Sanguem town, the bridge's closure disrupted vehicular traffic for more than two hours on both sides. Traffic resumed only after the water level receded.

Local resident Suhas Deikar and his team worked to clear a blockage at the beginning of the bridge, after trees had been swept downstream and got lodged against the structure.

In a separate development, a large crack has been reported on the side of the main road in the area, creating a hazardous situation for motorists.
