PORVORIM
Revenue Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Monday stated that if every resident of Porvorim ensures that his surrounding is maintained clean, then there won't be any garbage problem in Porvorim constituency.
He was speaking at a programme Mission SAS (Segregation at Source) organised by Penha de Franca, Socorro and Salvador-do-Mundo panchayats at Socorro Panchayat hall.
"Everybody is aware of their rights but very few remember their duties. If everybody makes it a point performs their duties sincerely, then most of the problems being faced by the State would be reduced considerably."
"If every resident of Porvorim ensures that his surrounding is maintained clean, then there won't be any garbage problem in Porvorim constituency. The Penha de Franca Panchayat has been collecting garbage on door-to-door basis for the last 7 years and yet garbage is seen by the side of the roads," said Khaunte.
"The panchayat cannot maintain cleanliness without cooperation of the residents. All the three panchayats have now decided to give dust bins to each and every household in the constituency to segregate and keep wet and dry garbage separately. It is now duty of each household to keep wet and garbage separately and resist from dumping garbage by the side of the road."
"Unless and until residents render their full cooperation to the panchayat, the objective of clean and green Porvorim will never be achieved," he added.
Khaunte further said as the population of the village increases, there should be corresponding development in regard to infrastructure.
"If this balance is not maintained, then the entire planning goes haywire. Hence my main focus is on development of infrastructure in respect of water, power and internal roads."
He said the dogs menace and stray cattle problem is increasing day by day and to tackle this problem, he has decided to utilize the land of 5,000 sq mtrs
on Socoror plateau given by Serula Communidade for keeping stray dogs after their sterilization and also for cattle pound.
Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Socorro Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar, Salvador-do-Mundo Sarpanch Sandeep Salgaonkar and ZP member Gupesh Naik also spoke on the occasion.
Later, Khaunte distributed the dust bins to the residents.
Sammer Sakhalkar compered the programme, while Shyam Kamat proposed the vote of thanks.
