A 35-year-old man, Ashok Bishnoi, engaged in the gas cylinder trade, was brutally assaulted late on Tuesday after a group of men allegedly barged into his rented room at Anjuna and attacked him with an iron rod.
Bishnoi sustained multiple injuries in the assault and was initially rushed to the North Goa District Hospital before being shifted to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, for further treatment. His condition is stated to be serious.
In his complaint to Anjuna Police, Bishnoi alleged that three local youths, along with four men from Rajasthan, were responsible for the attack. He claimed that the assault was linked to an ongoing rivalry in the gas cylinder business.
Police sources said preliminary investigations suggest the motive was revenge stemming from a business dispute. “The matter is under investigation. No arrests have been made so far, but teams are working to track down the suspects,” a senior officer said.
The incident has raised concerns in the area, with residents expressing shock over the violent assault.
Police have stepped up patrolling in Anjuna and surrounding areas to prevent further escalation of the rivalry.
