Gaude mulls monitoring of sports complexes via app

Sports Minister Govind Gaude on Monday said he has asked sports officials to design an app to bring all the sports complexes in the State under the scanner to facilitate close monitoring from one location.

In his surprise inspection of the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) complex at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, the second one in the last month, the Sports Minister descended on the jogging track to interact with the users. He also interacted with the youngsters at the gym to find out what more needs to be done and to get feedback from the coaches and the staff.

While saying that CCTV surveillance cameras will fall in place at the entry and exit points at the SAG complex, the Sports Minister further said that he intends to bring all the sports complexes spread across the state under an app for effective and close monitoring.

"This is my second inspection of the SAG complex, Fatorda. Last time around, I had insisted that the coaches should report for duties on time. I would like to send a message that there would be no compromise of discipline and punctuality,” he asserted.

He added: “I have checked with the instructors as well as the user and there’s room for improvement. The gym users have asked for requirements, and I have assured them to consider their requests.”

Gaude pointed out that he has checked the cleanliness of the SAG complex, including the jogging track and took note of the illumination. “There are certain issues which are not within the ambit of the manpower, but they cannot abdicate their responsibility on maintenance," he said, adding that he has issued strict instructions to the officials to tighten security at all the sports complexes in the state.

The Sports Minister inspected the work on the swimming pools and took a round of the badminton court and the gymnasiums.

Last time around, the Minister had found the coaches reporting late for duties, prompting him to issue instructions to the staff to place the erring officials under suspension.
