The voting was conducted on May 7 while the counting took place on Tuesday at the Sahakar Bhavan in Curti-Ponda. Though the number of registered voters was about 1 lakh, only 5,689 members voted from 35 voting centres across Goa.
The counting began at 11 am and the process took eleven long hours, before ending only at about 10 pm.
Two panels of Dr Govind Kamat and Dr Anil Gaunekar were in the fray and Shubhlaxmi Pai Raikar from the Kamat panel was elected unopposed from the women’s category.
In the general category, Dr Anil Gaunekar secured 2,925 votes, while winning members of his panel were Sandeep Khandeparkar (2,677), Venkatesh Naik (2,640), Shivaji Bhingui (2,625), and Narayan Talaulikar (2,616 votes).
Dr Govind Kamat polled 2,536 votes and winning members of his panel were Ashish Prabhu Verlekar (2,407 votes) from the charted accountant category and Avadhut Chimulkar (2,342 votes) in the bank expert category.
Later speaking to reporters, Dr Gaunekar expressed happiness with the verdict and said he would work for the betterment of the bank and its stakeholders.
