The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has proposed a Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry service between Cortalim and Marcaim to improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion, boost commerce and promote tourism.
A GCCI delegation comprising Chandrakant Gawas, Kiran Balalikar and Sanket Kaskar recently met Inland Waterways Minister Subhash Phal Dessai and submitted a memorandum. The minister assured them that the proposal would be examined by the concerned department.
GCCI said the service would benefit residents, commuters, employees, entrepreneurs and commercial vehicle operators travelling to Marcaim Industrial Estate and neighbouring areas. It could reduce dependence on road transport, cut travel time and provide a convenient, cost-effective alternative. The ferry would also transport vehicles, benefiting individuals and businesses moving goods and equipment across the State.
Improved water connectivity could attract more tourists to Marcaim and surrounding areas, creating opportunities for local businesses and tourism-related enterprises.
GCCI said the project would promote sustainable transport and strengthen economic activity, assuring authorities of its cooperation in implementing the proposal.
