THE GOAN NETWORK
Differences which were evidently growing within Generation Next for Goa, an anti-corruption NGO, are finally out in the open.
In an ironic twist of fate, general secretary of GenNext Adv Yemane D’Souza on Saturday announced the expulsion of president of the NGO, Durgadas Kamat, "on account of various irregularities and activities against the interest of the organization including misusing the organization name without the consent of the members for personal benefit."
The letter signed by Adv D’Souza and circulated in the media circle further stated that the members of GenNext met on October 2 at Hotel Mandovi where the charges levelled against Kamat were deliberated and discussed before arriving at the decision to expel him.
“The organization can’t condone such acts when we are engaged in anti-corruption campaign,” the letter said.
On behalf of GenNext, general secretary of the NGO went on to request the members of the general public to exercise caution and it was held that any person who engages with him in the name of GenNext shall do so at their own risk.
When sought for his reaction to this development, Kamat said, “I have yet to receive any formal communication affecting my expulsion as the president of GenNext. This is not the procedure to expel a president as per the NGO’s constitution. Neither are they aware of the constitution of GenNext nor have they taken all members into confidence. Besides, I suspect that the general secretary and those supporting his line of thinking are playing into the hands of a few senior political leaders. I don’t want to give much credence to this childish act of disgruntled elements. This has been done by disgruntled casino lobby and ruling politicians to create a divide in the anti-corruption movement. GenNext has been attempting to clean public life. Such cheap gimmicks are aimed at gaining cheap publicity through Sunday morning news. This is perhaps the first time in India that a general secretary has expelled a president."
