Getting passport details were difficult: PI Dalvi

Stating that one of the key challenges had been to collect passport details of 51 Nigerians and one Ghanian accused in the crime, Porvorim PI Jivba Dalvi said the police could obtain passport details of only 40 of 52 African nationals.

 “The case was pending for nearly 3 years, but I took the initiative and prepared the chargesheet,” Porvorim PI Jivba Dalvi told The Goan. He said the police, however, could not get passport details of 12 accused. “Four accused are in the judicial custody for offences committed by them in narcotics and other cases. Police had to take their statements also with the permission of the court,” he added.

Chargesheet filed against 52 Africans

Porvorim Police on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against 52 African nationals in connection with violent clashes along the highway near O’Coqueiro junction at Porvorim in October 2013. Porvorim PI Jivba G Dalvi filed the 69-page chargesheet in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Mapusa against 51 Nigerians and one Ghanian, indicting them of 17 offences, including attempt to murder, forming an unlawful assembly armed with weapons like iron rods and wooden sticks, wrongfully restraining a police van carrying the body of Nigerian Obodo Uzona Simeon and damaging the hearse van (GA-07-G-0244) by breaking its window glasses, etc.
