GFP demands criminal action against Smart City contractor

GFP demands criminal action against Smart City contractor

Following the collapse of the concrete retaining structure at Taad Maad- St Inez owing to the ongoing Smart City work, the GFP has demanded an FIR against the contractor for substandard work.

GFP in its letter to Chief Secretary has pointed out that the contractor’s slow pace of work and lack of necessary safety measures have left the trench open for an extended period, weakening the retaining structure.

" This negligence has endangered the surrounding structures, including an old Banyan tree near the trench, especially with the monsoon season intensifying the risk due to weakened soil," GFP said.

The party also alleged that the contractor has a history of substandard work in various departments, including Water Resources and Tourism.

Additionally, it has been discovered that the sewerage pipeline has been installed at a depth of only half a meter, contrary to the required one meter, and the improper slope maintenance could lead to a reverse flow of sewage, the party said.

"In light of these serious concerns, Goa Forward is demanding the filing of an FIR against the contractor responsible for the collapse," it said

The party has also demanded a criminal probe to audit and investigate both the collapse of the concrete structure and the ongoing Smart City works.

"Immediate and decisive action is deemed necessary to prevent further damage and ensure the safety and well-being of the residents and infrastructure in the area," the party said.
