Saying that the Political Affairs Committee of the regional party will take a call on severing ties with the National Democratic Party (NDA), Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai on Sunday said it will not augur well for the three party MLAs to oppose the BJP-led government in the ensuing session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, beginning from Monday.
Ahead of the Assembly session, Vijai, along with his MLAs, Jayesh Salgaokar, Vinoda Paliencar and other party leaders, was huddled at his Davondem residence to discuss issues on a day when
the party officially withdrew its support to the BJP-led
government.
“We were all part of the ruling government till Saturday and we cannot assume the role of an opposition on Monday. It will not augur well for the party MLAs to oppose the government when we were part of the ruling dispensation till Saturday,” Sardesai told The Goan.
He, however, said his MLAs will play their own role in the Assembly, but made it clear the party will not engage in dramatics in the House just because the three MLAs are now in the opposition.
Moreover, he pointed out that since no questions were posed by the Goa Forward MLAs, there’s no question of the party playing any major role in the House. “It would not be proper to oppose the government just because we are now in the opposition. But we would like to assure the people of Goa that the GFP MLAs are committed to protect their interests and to take Goemkarponn forward,” he said, while making it clear that no one should expect something dramatic from
the party MLAs during the
session.
On Goa Forward’s future vis-Ã -vis the NDA, Sardesai said the Party’s Political Affairs Committee will meet to deliberate on the future ties with the NDA.
“We were dropped from the government and today we have officially withdrawn our support to the government,” he said, adding that the party’s political affairs committee will decide on the party’s ties with the NDA.
