MAPUSA
Stating that the new municipal ordinance will hit the local traders hard, Goa Forward Party Working President Kiran Kandolkar on Monday said his party will back all the shopkeepers who are going to be affected by the ordinance.
He also said that Goa Forward was contemplating to contest the civic elections from Pernem and Mapusa.
“The pandemic has affected the business of many local traders. The economy is tottering and amidst all the gloom this insensitive BJP-led government has brought an ordinance that is going to rob the livelihood of Goan traders,” Kandolkar said, adding that Goa Forward will go all out to support the affected shopkeepers in the State.
The GFP working president was addressing a news conference in Mapusa.
Speaking further, Kandolkar said the current BJP-led government was acting in deceit and misleading the general public. He said many announcements were being made with the elections in mind.
“The BJP has won the Zilla Panchayat elections through chicanery. The SEC which is a puppet of the BJP announced the election date just five days in advance giving little chance to the opposition parties to regroup. People of Goa are aware of the treachery of the BJP,” he said.
Kandolkar informed that Goa Forward was planning to contest the municipal elections from Pernem and Mapusa.
“Let the government decide whether they want to hold the elections on party lines or not. We are ready either way and will take a plunge in the civic polls,” he said.
