Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai said on Saturday that the Goa government has taken an important step to protect the state’s ecological and cultural heritage after persistent efforts by his party.
He said the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) has written to the Veling-Priol Village Panchayat, asking them to pass a resolution in the Gram Sabha to declare ‘Jayanche Molle’ a Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS).
“This step is the result of continuous efforts by me and the Goa Forward Party to protect Goa’s unique biodiversity and cultural sites. ‘Jayanche Molle’ is an ecologically and historically important place,” he said.
Sardesai recalled past attempts to destroy the site for development, which his party raised in the Legislative Assembly. Their efforts have now led to government action.
