GGEA fears delay in 7th pay implementation

Members from the Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) have expressed fear that they may not receive their revised pay under the Seventh Pay Commission for the month of January as per the government’s order.
Their pay fixation statements have not been approved, according to them, owing to mass appointment of staff and officers of the Directorate of Accounts by the Election Commission for the expenditure monitoring cells and other election related work in the offices of the Returning Officers.
A delegation of the GGEA comprising John Nazareth, president and Sushant Shirodkar, executive member met the Joint Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti on Wednesday.
On being pointed out about mass appointment of the staff and officers of the Directorate of Accounts for election work, Navti informed GGEA that he is not adverse to issue instructions for relieving the staff and officers of the Directorate of Accounts who are genuinely required provided the Director of Accounts submits a specific proposal in that regards by giving their names, designations and places of posting.
Accordingly GGEA on Monday met Gokuldas Kanekar, Director of Accounts, Rajesh Mahale, Dy Director of Accounts and Ulhas Naik, Asstt Accounts Officer and discussed the issue at length and also briefed about the discussion held with Navti.
Kanekar and the other officers informed that in reality there was immense pressure on the existing staff to meet the shortfall of staff owing to the appointment staff for election related duties and that there could be slight delay in payment of salaries and pension.
Government employees working in various departments and pensioners are therefore made known that efforts are being made by GGEA to get the issue resolved and get the required staff relieved from election duty so as to ensure timely payment of salary in the revised pay scales so also payment of pension to the pensioners. Government employees are also requested to remain ready in case the election authorities change their stand, to gherao the said officers as and when instructed by GGEA.
