Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar lobbied hard for his 'new faces' mantra for the 2022 assembly elections at a 'Screening Committee' meeting of the Congress held in Delhi.
Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat attended the meeting, the first formal one, held by the committee set up to sift through the list of claimants for party tickets in the five States, including Goa, slated to go to elections in early 2022.
The panel is headed by the party MP from Maharashtra, Rajani Patil, who incidentally made a trip to Goa in the first week of December and interacted with Congress leaders in both North and South Goa.
It is not known if at its Sunday meeting the screening committee considered specific names for candidature in any of the 40 assembly constituencies although the party has completed the first phase of its candidate selection process with block committees recommending a set of names for each seat.
Around the same time that Patil was in the State, the AICC general secretary in-charge of Goa desk, Dinesh Gundu Rao, had said that the party would releases its first list of candidates by December 10.
