Nearly eight weeks after his complaint evoked no action from the Panaji police, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president, Girish Chodankar took the private complaint route and moved Panaji's First Class Judicial Magistrate (JMFC) seeking an FIR be registered against the 10 defector MLAs and their associates for forging documents.
The JMFC has fixed the first hearing in the matter on June 23.
Chodankar has separately petitioned the Bombay High Court in a writ petition challenging Goa Speaker Rajesh Patnekar's judgement dismissing his pleas for disqualifying the 10 MLAs who ditched the Congress in July 2019 and joined the BJP in government claiming 'merger'.
The complaint accuses the 10 MLAs including Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, Isidore Fernandes, Nilkanth Halarnkar, Jennifer Monserrate, her husband Atanasio (Babush), Antonio Fernandes, Francia Silveira, Wilfred D'Sa, Clafasio Dias and Felipe Neri Rodrigues of signing forged documents and claiming them to be GPCC resolution for merger.
In the Miscellaneous Criminal Application, the JMFC has been urged to direct the Panaji Police Inspector to register the FIR.
Chodankar also pleads that the North Goa Superintendent of Police be asked to conduct an independent investigation with the Court monitoring it.
