In the hullabaloo of Tuesday’s stir by doctors outside the Dean’s office, arrival of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the high-tension discussions inside the Dean’s office, what went unnoticed was a visibly distressed man in a white lab coat, a black band around his left arm, walking into the Dean’s office and then walking out quietly to his place of duty, the casualty ward – Dr Rudresh Kuttikar.

Dr Kuttikar politely declined to make any comments to media persons after he emerged from the Dean’s office block and kept walking along the long pathway which leads to the Casualty Block.

Hoards of cameramen kept tailing him along the way asking him to make at least one comment but the doctor, described by many as diligent and hardworking, remained tight-lipped and dignifiedly walked away into the Casualty Block.

All that Dr Kuttikar has so far said publicly about the episode where he was apparently unfairly and rudely reprimanded and verbally abused by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday, is: “I was only following medical protocol.”

Rane had launched the tirade against Dr Kuttikar after he received a complaint from a senior journalist that the doctor had misbehaved while denying his mother-in-law, a senior citizen, a B12 injection, which is not an emergency procedure and is not administered at the casualty ward meant for emergency and trauma patients.
