Students of Kiskon-Paddi will finally return to classes at the government primary school after the authorities assured their parents to expedite work on an alternate premise to run the school.
Parents had refused to send their wards to the government primary school when the schools reopened last week in protest over the failure of the education authorities to shift the school to a premise near their place of residence. They were also protesting over the installation of a mobile tower in the school complex against their wishes since they feared that the tower would cause radiation and also reduce the recreation space meant for the children.
Sources informed that the Quepem deputy Collector along with the taluka Mamlatdar visited Kiskon-Paddi in a bid to break the deadlock between the parents and the education authorities. The team inspected the alternate premises suggested by the parents for shifting of the school.
The parents demanded that the authorities should not charge the mobile tower till such time the school is not shifted to the new premises. They also demanded that the Education Department should expedite work on the new premises and shift the school at the earliest.
The parents later told the media that they have agreed to send their wards to the school after the authorities handed out an assurance to expedite work on the alternate premises.
