The displaced GMC kiosk owners and fruits/vegetables vendors have decided to defer their strike by a week after receiving an assurance by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that work on the rehabilitation will start within this week.
The decision was arrived at after a delegation of the kiosk owners, accompanied by St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes, met Sawant on Monday evening.
Speaking to The Goan, MLA Fernandes said the chief minister has assured that work on the kiosks will start within this week.
“Apart from that, the CM has assured the kiosk owners that the tender has been floated and all approvals have been obtained,” Fernandes stated.
Concurring with MLA Fernandes, kiosk owner Dominic Pereira who formed part of the delegation said, “We met the chief minister today and he has assured that work on the rehabilitation plan will start within this week.”
“He has also informed that tender has already been opened and part of the work has already started. He has also informed us that the rehabilitation plan is a proposal of the government and hence, there’s no question of it being held back,” Pereira added.
He further said that in view of the assurance by the CM they have decided to defer the hunger strike by a week on the request of CM Sawant and St Cruz MLA Fernandes.
