GMC patient jumps to death from third floor

PANAJI

In a bizarre incident, a 40-year-old patient who had undergone treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim and was to be shortly discharged jumped off the third floor of the hospital and fell to his death on Thursday.

Officials identified the deceased patient as Mumtaj Khan. He was a resident of Ponda but a native of Uttar Pradesh and had been admitted on Sunday.

GMC sources said, he would have been discharged on Thursday or Friday.

The police have booked the case as an unnatural death and launched an investigation.

Meanwhile, the State government has granted a three-month extension to GMC dean, Dr Jai Prakash Tiwari with effect from July 1 and up to September 30.
