Goa Airport director Lt Akash Deep on Wednesday said that a red alert has been issued at the Goa Airport following the recent bomb blast in Delhi, with heightened security measures now in place across the premises.
Addressing reporters during a press conference, Deep said a special security meeting was convened immediately after the alert to review preparedness and strengthen surveillance.
“We convened a special security meeting and sensitised all stakeholders and agencies working at the airport to not only upgrade their systems but also be more vigilant in following procedures,” said Deep. “We have instructed everyone on duty that this is a sensitive installation and there cannot be a ‘chalta hai’ attitude. One must keep their eyes and ears open and report anything unusual immediately to airport and security agencies.”
Deep said he has personally addressed the CISF personnel, who hold the primary responsibility for airport security, and instructed for enhanced vigilance and manpower deployment.
“We have deployed additional staff for security and surveillance duties. The police have also been asked to coordinate and ensure better city-side and traffic management,” he said. “Since a car was involved in the Delhi blast, we do not want such situations to occur at our airport. The police and traffic department share equal responsibility, and we expect them to conduct stricter checks outside the airport, while we continue our efforts within the premises.”
Deep further said that the airport has decided to strictly adhere to Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) norms that mandate parking to be at least 100 metres away from terminal buildings.
