The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBS&HSE) on Friday released its policy document to evaluate Class XII students for the HSSC examination which largely follows the scheme adopted by the two Central Boards -- CBSE and ICSE.
According to the document, the students' performance at Class XII internal exams and academic work get 40 per cent weightage while their scores in the previous two years -- Class X and XI marks -- each will be given 30 per cent weiightage.
Both the Central Boards -- CBSE and ICSE -- had adopted more or less similar evaluation scheme.
The GBS&HSE will conduct webinars on Saturday and heads of HSSs have been asked to attend.
HSSs are required to constitute a 'Result Committee" comprising the Principal and four seniormost teachers, preferably picked from each of the streams among Arts, Commerce, Science and Vocational which are taught in the HSS.
Also, one teacher from a neighbouring HSS has to be inducted in the 'Result Committee', says the document released by the Board.
For the Class XII internal (theory) marks which carry 40 pr cent weightage, the document says the 'Result Committee' may decide the weightage to be given to each of the tests conducted through the year -- unit tests, mid-term and preliminary examination.
The 30-page document also elaborates in detail the evaluation mode for the class X and XII components which carry a 30 per-cent weightage each.
Interestingly, the option of answering the examination will be provided by the Board as and when circumstances are conducive to hold them for those students who are unhappy with their marks obtained using this evaluation module.
The GBS&HSE like education boards across the country was forced to cancel physical theory examinations for both class X (SSC) and XII (HSSC) after the second Covid-19 wave ravaged the State and the country, posing itself with the dilemma of coming up with an objective evaluation module and marks tabulation for thousands of students registered to take the two crucial public exams.
