They may be in the same party but Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte and former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar have not missed opportunities to spar in public.
A few days ago, Parsekar had accused Sopte of failing to undertake development in Mandrem constituency in the last four years and was confident that the BJP ticket for Mandrem constituency would be given to him for the next assembly polls.
Sopte promptly hit back and convened a news conference to state that the party would decide on the ticket to the candidate. He even taunted Parsekar to take rest for the next five-and-half years.
“The former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar has aged and cannot see the development I have undertaken from Virnoda to Keri,” said Sopte at the news conference, which was attended by Mandrem BJP Block President Madhu Parab, General Secretary Sudesh Sawant and Govind Ajgaonkar.
Sopte also claimed to have completed projects which were left midway by Parsekar during his tenure.
Parsekar then retaliated by reiterating his claim to be given the BJP ticket at the next assembly polls.
"Why does he think I should rest for the next five-and-half years? Sopte has stopped too low and his statements are unsuitable for an MLA,” said Parsekar.
