Saying that contractors are key partners in the state’s development, the Goa Contractors Union on Monday stressed the need for closer coordination between the government and contractors to ensure healthy, sustainable and quality infrastructure growth across Goa.
A delegation of the union met the newly appointed Principal Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, Sandeep Chodnekar, to congratulate him on taking charge and to wish him well for his tenure.
The delegation was led by union president Sunil Signapurkar. It included spokesperson Jitesh Kamat, treasurer Amol Navelkar, secretary Umesh Dharwatkar, Sandesh Potnis, Allah Baksha, Umesh Gadekar and other members.
During the meeting, the union said contractors are not just executing agencies but important stakeholders in the development process. They said successful infrastructure projects require cooperation between the government and contractors.
“Healthy and sustainable development, along with quality execution of works, can be achieved only when the government and contractors work together,” the union said.
The union added that it has always tried to maintain a constructive and transparent relationship with the government.
Issues affecting contractors, including fairness in tendering and allocation of works, have been raised through regular dialogue with the authorities.
The union also thanked the offices of the PWD minister and the Principal Chief Engineer for their support in resolving concerns and taking timely decisions.
The meeting with the new PCE was aimed at strengthening this working relationship and ensuring smooth coordination in carrying out development projects in the state.
Union spokesperson Jitesh Kamat said the PCE assured the delegation of his cooperation and continued support to the contractor community for effective implementation of infrastructure works in Goa.
