The poll was held at Colvale, Curchorem, Vitthalapur-Sanquelim and in Sahakar Bhavan at Ponda. The counting will take place on Monday morning. The Registrar of Cooperative Societies conducted the election process as directed by the Cooperative Tribunal.
It may be recalled that 37 members had filed nominations for elections held in January. However, during scrutiny, the returning officer had rejected 25 nomination papers of the opposition groups and 12 members were elected unopposed, including Goa Dairy chairman Madhav Sahakari.
Later, 12 of the 25 members, whose nomination papers were rejected, challenged the order and the election process of the returning officer in the High Court.
In the election on Sunday, 12 members of the Madhav Sahakari faction and 12 members of the Goa Dairy Bachao group were in the fray, and their fate was sealed in the ballot boxes.
Returning officer Satish Sawant told The Goan that the election process was held peacefully and counting will take place on Monday at 11 am. “Counting will take place in Sahakar Bhavan at Curti-Ponda,” he said.
Fifty-two voters from Sattari and Bicholim cast their votes at Vitthalapur-Sanquelim, 31 voters from Tiswadi and Pernem voted at Colvale, 52 voters from Ponda, Salcette and Dharbandora voted at Sahakar Bhavan, while 30 voters from Quepem, Sanguem and Canacona voted in Curchorem voting center. The total number of voters is 165.
